Skinpass Mill, Temper/DCR Mill

These mills are used in the important skinpass process which determines the final product quality for materials such as cold-rolled steel strip, galvanized steel strip, stainless steel strip, and tin plate. The skinpass process adds small reduction to annealed cold -rolled steel strip or plated steel strip. This corrects the product flatness, adds mechanical properties, and adjusts the surface luster and roughness.
The most common configuration is a single skinpass mill that rolls in a single direction, with tension reels placed on both sides of the mill. However other types are also used, such as a temper mill with 2 mill stands for higher tempering in tin production mills, for electrical steels, and DCR (Double Cold Reduction) mills which include 2 or 3 mill stands for repeated rolling in the production of thin tin materials known as DR materials. In addition, these mills are also used as in-line skinpass mills in a continuous annealing line or continuous plating line.
